• 5 nail trends for Spring 2020

Is it time to let the spring hues in your life? The answer you are looking for is YES, a thousand times YES! Here are 5 of the most popular-to-be nail trends for Spring 2020. Let the sunshine in ☀

    Minimalistic nudes

Keep it low-key: try pale pink nails plus small white dots, a black stripe on some of your fingers or another tiny accent. Believe us: those are more visible than you think!

    Creamy hues

A very pretty combo (Oscar de la Renta-approved) is orange against taupe or pink against cream yellow. It will be a bit extravagant and yet very ladylike, so just give it a go next time you’re visiting the nail salon.

    Shades of blue

Okay, we agree blue is more of a summer shade, but given the fact that classic blue is the colour of 2020, we were prepared to see it everywhere since day 1 (day one being the day Pantone announced their Colour of the year, in case you wonder). All blue variations will do: cobalt, teal, ultramarine, powder blue.

    Barely-there French manicure

Make the line as thin as possible, may we suggest even the term “micro”? This interpretation of the classic manicure is subtle and sophisticated. Do we need to say it goes with absolutely everything in your wardrobe?

    Flora & fauna

    <Florals for spring? Groundbreaking!>

We do remember Miranda Priestly’s comment, but it turns out one can never have enough floral details when it comes to the spring season. But if one does, there are plenty of catchy and bright butterflies which can fly directly on your nails.

  • Colour radar: neons

The neon trend that was so popular in the 90s seems to have made a huge comeback within the last few years. Even if you’re not a fan of bright shades, designers will make sure that you see them everywhere.

The fashion world noticed a massive invasion in 2018 when many of the spring/summer collections for 2019 demonstrated a neon supremacy. Some of the names that included neon pieces on the runway were Jeremy Scott, House of Holland, Emporio Armani, Emilia Wickstead, Prabal Gurung and Tibi.

    shutterstock_1191376303

Fashionistas all over the world embraced the trend and we saw fluorescent clothes and accessories in green, orange, pink and yellow literally everywhere during the spring-summer season. Neon snake prints, neon organza, neon patent leather were also huge… and they still are.

As awards season 2020 commenced, we saw another neon wave on the red carpet. Kristen Bell wore a bright green Cong Tri jumpsuit, Charlize Theron picked a neon Dior dress, Zoey Deutch chose a yellow Fendi Couture creation with dramatic sleeves, Pryanka Chopra showed us a pink sleeveless gown by Cristina Ottaviano. We also have to mention Billie Eilish’s neon green hair and the hot pink Versace leather suit worn by Lil Nas X at the Grammys.

  • Golden Globes and Critics Choices

Awards season 2020 is officially upon us. The first half of the first month of the new year already made us witnesses to the Golden Globes and the Critics’ Choice Awards.

    shutterstock_1613633824

Before we move to the names & titles with the most nominations/awards and the favourite list with best dressed celebrities, we have a few cool facts for the ceremonies that we would like to share with you.

    1. The Golden Globes went vegan
Okay, that is not completely true, but the menu during this year’s edition totally supported veganism. It included beetroot soup, mushroom “scallops” and a vegan interpretation of the French Opera cake.
    2. Phoebe Waller-Bridge decided to prove she is not just an impeccable talent, but also a good human being. Here is why she is selling her Golden Globes outfit (a glamorous two-piece by Ralph & Russo) in order to donate the money for the Australian wildfires cause. Great job, Fleabag!
    3. The Critics (and all their guests) ate plant-based burgers and vegan burritos. Evidently the trend during Awards season 2020 will be “healthy diet”. We don’t mind.

    The winners?
1917 won the Golden Globe for Best motion picture – drama, and its director Sam Mendes won the award for Best director in a motion picture. Marriage Storywas also nominated for Best motion picture – drama, and both Adam Driver and Scarlett Johansson got a nomination for their roles in the movie. Johansson lost to Renée Zellweger (Judy), Driver lost to Joaquin Phoenix (Joker). Laura Dern did win the Best supporting actress in a motion picture award for Noah Baumbach’s movie. Her male counterpart was Brad Pitt for Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. Speaking of handsome men, Taron Egerton took home many many female hearts together with the Best actor in a musical/comedy prize for his Elton John reincarnation in Rocketman.

    shutterstock_1614461173

According to the Critics, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood deserves to be called Best picture. The best actors were still Renée Zellweger and Joaquin Phoenix, no changes within the best supporting actors either: Brad Pitt & Laura Dern. There was a tie for Best director between Bong Joon-ho (Parasite) and Sam Mendes (1917). Once Upon a Time in Hollywood by Tarantino was the best original screenplay, Greta Gerwig’s Little Women was the most appreciated adapted version. Roman Griffin Davis won the award for Best young actor for his role in Jojo Rabbit and in case you still haven’t seen the movie, you should book a ticket as soon as possible.

    The red carpet?

  • Designer Remix: Zac Posen

Elegance, grace, romance, femininity, splendour and a dash of ambiguity. Zac Posen showed it all.

    shutterstock_158761331

The American fashion designer recently announced that he is closing his eponymous fashion house. Here is a tribute to all that he taught us about beauty.

    shutterstock_60825880

Zachary Posen was born and raised in New York in a Jewish family of a painter and a corporate attorney. Since early age, he showed an interest in fashion. He attended a private school in Brooklyn. He studied at Parsons School of Design in New York and did an internship at the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute before moving to London to attend Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design.

    shutterstock_165566540

In 2002, Posen created a dress for Naomi Campbell. The rest is history. His New York Fashion Week debut was with the Spring-Summer 2002 collection (Zac was 22 years old!). After seeing the models on the runway, The New York Times announced that a star was born. The star gained recognition with his elegant and glamorous designs.

    shutterstock_103583858

Some of the famous actors Posen has dressed are Cameron Diaz, Nathalie Portman, Gwyneth Paltrow, Rihanna, Reese Witherspoon, Kate Winslet and Sarah Jessica Parker. In 2008, he designed a collection for Target and in 2014, he went for a line with bridal gowns.

  • Green brand of the week: SAMARA

You know that during the past few years, the art of Green Fashion has been so popular that we can actually call it a trend.

Let’s journey back to the Spring-Summer 2016 collection that Karl Lagerfeld designed for Chanel. The sustainable pieces were created from jute, hemp, cork, cotton, straw and even recycled paper.

And how about Stella McCartney, the designer who banned fur, suede, leather and feathers in her collection since the establishment of her eponymous brand?

Today, our focus is on SAMARA – a Toronto-based brand established by Salima Visram. The label is named after Salima’s sister and its portfolio includes simple and elegant bags made from vegan leather. The tiniest (literally) item in the collection is the Apple Leather Mini bag which is made of apple-based leather.

    View this post on Instagram

Did you know, most vegan leather is still currently made from PVC (polyvinylchloride) which is extremely detrimental to the environment? We’ve never used PVC. Then, there’s PU (polyurethane) which is a little better. Then, there’s microfiber which is much better. We used microfiber wherever we could, and PU if necessary. But that’s not enough. We tried creating our own plant based leathers (in our kitchen sometimes) and experimented with coconut and pineapple too. Then we found that Apple leather could look exactly like real leather, and if you mixed it with a little bit of PU, it was durable too. We’ve taken apple skins that are wasted by the juicing industry, to create bags, and we’re going to keep trying to create better vegan leather for you, because it’s high time that the fashion industry becomes more natural, and plant based too 🍎 We can’t wait to show you what’s next!

A post shared by SAMARA (@be.samara) on

SAMARA has also collaborated with The Soular Backpack – a company which provides solar powered backpacks for children in rural parts of Africa who don’t have access to electricity. Every purchase of a bag covers the cost of one Soular backpack.

“It is safe to say, when you buy a Samara product, you are lighting up someone else’s life.”

Naomi Watts is the next fashion chef-d’oeuvre. The actress wore a Dior Haute Couture dress and looked like a real-life princess in it. Good job, Naomi!

Gwyneth Paltrow opted for something more than style: timeless vintage design. And when we say vintage, we mean Valentino from 1963.

You probably remember Carice van Houten from her Game of Thrones performance. The Dutch actress supported a fellow Dutch designer: Ronald van der Kemp.

Her GOT co-star Emilia Clarke also earned some style points with her Valentino Haute Couture look in a sophisticated navy blue shade.

The gentlemen did not fall behind. Billy Porter wore a hat and a sparklingMichael Kors pinstriped suit. Yes, in that order. Mahershala Ali picked a jacquard suit from Ermenegildo Zegna’s XXX line and accessorized it with Oliver Peoples sunglasses, a Title of Work lapel pin and a Bulgari watch.
