• Nail trends for Autumn 2019

The autumn season is knocking on our doors. And even if you still have that very last seaside vacation on your list, the time has come to think about some of the trends that everyone will be sporting during the next months. We have good news for you: they will definitely brighten up your daily look!

Let’s see the nail trends for Autumn 2019.

    Gradient nails
Gradient of glitter in all the metal shades you could possibly think of, that’s what we’re talking about!

    Exotic prints
Leopard prints, tiger nails, tortoise shell; on one accent nail, on half of each nails. You really have plenty of possibilities…

    Two-toned
Try those combinations: dark blue + narrow azure tips; hot pink + narrow pale pink tips.
Where did we see it? House of Holland, Iceberg.

    Negative space
In case you are wondering what “negative space” stands for: that is the design which Prabal Gurung’s runway turned into a trend: lack of nail polish on some part of your nails.

    (Almost) nudes
Keep your nails (almost) nude and glossy. The palette includes vanilla custard, elegant grey, crême de pèche (peach cream) – everything will do.

    Pearls
You have two options: to put those on your nails or above your nails. We saw the first example chez Adeam, and the second one – chez Rodarte. Is that chic mani the new classy? We believe so.

Which is the first trend you are willing to try this autumn? Our personal favourite are the pearls, we’re just not sure if we can pull it off!

  • Colour radar: vanilla custard

Now that we’re getting closer to the transitional season between summer and autumn, we noticed one colour in particular which most of our favourite designers embraced in their Autumn-Winter 2019 collections.

Vanilla custard is an off-white hue or a light shade of beige. It can be worn from head to toe in a monochrome outfit or combined with some of the bright shades that will be dominating during the cold months to come (according to the experts, those are orange tiger; chili pepper; galaxy blue).

Where did we see the vanilla custard look? In the collections shown by Valentino (trench coats, long skirts), Dolce & Gabbana (coats), Tibi (head to toe ensembles), Sportmax (layers such as hooded coats, sweaters & midi trousers).

Here are some ideas how to implement this smooth and creamy white in your wardrobe for the transitional season:

    For coastal walks

Perhaps the most comfortable choice for those will be a pair of sneakers. Just keep your flip-flops close – in the handbag, for example. You don’t want to miss the opportunity to spend some time on a newly discovered beach, do you?

    For casual cocktail hours

And when we say casual, we mean a mimosa for brunch or margaritas at 3 pm. So don’t opt for too much extravaganza, pick a pair of comfy espadrilles and dare to have that second drink!

    For fancy dinner dates

Now that would be the time to sparkle! Carrie Bradshaw made Manolo Blahnik shoes a must for fancy romantic dinner dates. Pick a pair of royal blue flatswith a sparkling detail or the iconic Mary Janes with a strap. Their Majesties will do the rest for you.

  • Green brand of the week: Columbia

Making sustainability the core of your brand’s identity requires a lot of energy, creative resources and devotion to the cause. The sportswear label Columbia understands this pretty well and shows exactly how the sustainable cycle works, involving the key elements: care for the people and the environment.

    shutterstock_1071612452

    Empowering people

Columbia supports and inspires its employees to be active citizens and to be more responsible in their life choices. Every Columbia employee gets paid for 16 volunteer hours per year. The brand has also founded HERproject, which aims to empower the women in the company’s workforce through trainings and enrichment programs.

    Sustaining places

The outdoor label is partnering with the National Park Foundation to help kids discover the natural wonders of our world. For each purchased National Park T-shirt, Columbia donates $1 to the Open OutDoors for Kids initiative. The brand also supports the U.S. nonprofit organisationPlanet Water Foundation in providing clean water for people from the world’s most disadvantaged communities.

    Responsible practices

Columbia follows the 12 ethical Standards of manufacturing practices (SMP) and monitors performance for the continuous improvement of the working environment. The brand is striving to make products with fewer chemicals which are safe for everyone who comes into contact with them, from the people in the manufacturing process to those who wear them.

    Responsible down standard

The brand works under the independent, voluntary global standard The Responsible Down Standard, which recognises the best practices in animal welfare and ensures the down and feathers used in the production of all Columbia products are sourced responsibly.

    OutDry Extreme Eco

OutDry Extreme Eco is a sustainable, waterproof, breathable technology for jackets. It combines high performance and ecological materials. The jackets are made with dye-free fabric, 100% recycled materials, 100% responsible down and with strong thermal bonding, which ensures the cold stays out of the body and the down stays inside the jacket.

And these practices are just a few good examples of how the brand keeps up with sustainability.

  • Designer Remix: Vera Wang

“I want people to see the dress but focus on the woman.”

    – Vera Wang

     shutterstock_96469496

Mother of two. Woman. Designer. Inspiration. Femininity. Elegance. Vera Wang is all that combined.

Vera Ellan Wang was born in 1949 in New York City. She has Chinese roots – both her parents were born in China, but they moved to New York in the 40s. At the age of 9, she started figure skating and competed professionally for several years. She failed to enter the United States Olympic team. Such a fortunate turn of events for so many brides out there…

    shutterstock_388895191

Vera was hired as a fashion editor at Vogue right after she graduated from college, which made her the youngest editor at the magazine. She worked there for 17 years and then started a job at Ralph Lauren in 1987. Two years later, miss Wang designed her own wedding dress, became missus Wang, designed an entire collection, opened a wedding boutique and became an independent bridal wear designer.

    shutterstock_187804622

Her first prêt-à-porter collection was launched in 2000, followed by a fragrance and a wedding guide in 2001. She designed the wedding dresses of some of the most popular contemporary women – Alicia Keys, Victoria Beckham, Mariah Carey, Avril Lavigne and many more. And even though she didn’t make it to the US Olympic team as a figure skater, she made it as a designer for several stars on the ice rink. In 2009, Vera Wang entered the U.S. Figure Skating Hall of Fame for her contribution.

    shutterstock_84893968

She has been honored with many other awards for her achievements, including the Council of Fashion Designers of America’s Womenswear Designer Award (2005) and Lifetime Achievement Awards (2013).

  • The wristwatch – men’s all time source of fashion inspiration

The wristwatch has been for decades now one of the most expensive accessories and one of the most desirable items in a man’s outfit. It represents one’s personality and social status and it can make a strong first impression regarding personal sense of style or, in some cases, the lack of it. You can feel it already, right? The watch is a tricky accessory to choose and wear and yet a proper one could become the perfect sidekick for any look.

    shutterstock_1132502531

    Some interesting facts about watches:

The wristwatch was originally intended to be worn by women. The first wristwatch was created in the 16th century as a gift for the queen of England Elizabeth I. Back then, it was described as an arm watch. Men started to wear wristwatches significantly later – towards the end of the 19th century.

Watches on window displays usually show 10 minutes past 10 and 10 minutes to 2 o’clock. These two positions of the clock hands are known as the Happy time. When the hands are set this way, it seems as if the clock is smiling and this happy face projects positivity to the observers/ clients.

    featureimage-watches

    Komono watches from Remixshop.com

Functionalities on watches such as water resistance, date display and moon phase are known as complications. Watches can have multiple complications in dive and pilot watches. However, dress watches have little or no complications other than simply showing the time.

If you want to do it right, you have to consider the watch as an investment piece. Well-crafted and durable watches are often handmade and therefore very expensive. But higher price doesn’t always mean higher quality.

    shutterstock_1063779269

The wristwatch is a timeless piece. Pick the best match for most of your outfits and needs, don’t just buy your watch following the current fashion trends.

Speaking of timeless pieces, watches are great heirlooms. Not only that the old watch of your grandfather could be a really nice vintage fashion find but also its age and previous owner put additional value to it.

  • Colour radar: pistachio green

It’s official: pistachio green is one of the biggest colour trends of summer 2019. We constantly see it on the streets, we saw it on the runway for SS 2019 (Valentino, Marc Jacobs, Jil Sander and JW Anderson are just some of the designers that opted for that pale green shade in their collections) and you simply have to see it in your wardrobe!

Here are some ideas how to add the sage-resembling hue to your colour palette.

    1. Heeled sandals

We suggest that you go for a pair of pistachio mules or slingback pumps. Combine it with a midi boho dress in white/beige and rock your walk.

    2. Leather skirt

Mini lengths are your weapon of choice? How about an overlapped belted skirt in this shade of green? Mix & match it with all the shirts dancing on the hangers.

    3. Dress

Instead of picking just one single piece of your outfit in pistachio colour, why not wear it from head to toe? Pick a green midi dress (yes, you got that right – we adore them), add the pair of shoes from our first suggestion (1. Heeled sandals) and have yourselves a never-ending summer!

    shutterstock_1294242586

    4. Nail polish

That’s the opposite case of our previous idea. Now we’re following the rule “It’s all about the details.” You can choose pale green for the main hue of your manicure or least add some pistachio glitter in this shade.shutterstock_391621336

What are your peaceful colours for the summer?

  • Style Remix: Chris Evans

Have you ever asked yourselves the question “What would Captain America do”? No? Truth be told, we haven’t done it either. But many Americans have. Belated happy birthday, Captain America, also known as Chris Evans!

    shutterstock_412705942

Christopher Robert Evans was born on June 13, 1981, in Boston, Massachusetts. After graduating from high school in his hometown, he moved to New York where he took theatre classes. 1997 was the year of his first appearance on television in the short film Biodiversity: Wild About Life! Seven years later, he was offered the leading role in the films The Perfect Score and Cellular.

    shutterstock_412705978

His first superhero role was in 2005 in Fantastic Four – a film based on the Marvel Comics (little we all knew back then, the Marvel Cinematic Universe in his life was just beginning).

    shutterstock_1367092058

Chris co-starred alongside Keanu Reeves in Street Kings in 2008. He also appeared in two comic-book adaptations – The Losers in 2010 and Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, also in 2010.

The premiere of Captain America: The First Avenger was in 2011. Iron Man, Hulk and Thor joined him a year later, in 2012, for The Avengers. The next solo chapters for the Captain were Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Captain America: Civil War. The entire crew gathered again for Avengers: Age of Ultron in 2015, Avengers: Infinity War in 2018 and Avengers: Endgame in 2019.

    shutterstock_404856829

Apart from his superpowers, Evans is famous for his love for animals. While filming the title Giftedin a shelter, Chris adopted a dog. Just like that, he found it inbetween the scenes.

  • Tony Awards 2019

The hype about the Tony Awards is nothing compared to the atmosphere surrounding the Academy Awards, the Golden Globes or the MTV Music Awards. But that is an unforgivable oversight. Broadway with its 41 super professional theatres in New York and the artists that achieve absolute perfection on their stages – that’s what the Tony Awards are all about.

    shutterstock_1081175228

Perhaps most of you don’t know that the official name of the Tony Award is Antoinette Perry Award for Excellence in Broadway Theatre. The medallions are named after Antoinette “Tony” Perry, the co-founder of the American Theatre Wing.

Let’s see what were the highlights during this year’s ceremony.

The location was Radio City Music Hall in New York. The colourful show was hosted by James Corden. Hadestown received the Best Musical award, Oklahoma! was the Best Revival of a Musical and The Ferryman won in the Best Play category.

Hadestown won seven more Tony medallions, so perhaps you are willing to learn a bit more about it. As the name suggests, the musical is an adaptation of the ancient Greek myth for Orpheus and Eurydice – the one where Orpheus journeys to the underworld in order to save his fiancée. Eva Noblezada (Eurydice) didn’t win the prize for Best Performance by a Leading Actress in a Musical – even though she was a nominee in that category – but André De Shields who portrayed Hermes got the award for Best Performance by a Featured Actor in a Musical.

What happened on the red carpet? The most memorable appearances were those of Billy Porter in a custom Celestine Couture outfit, Rachel Brosnahan in Christian Dior, Adam Driver (we are not sure who the designer he picked was; we only know that he nailed the black tux), Sophia Anne Caruso in Pamela Rolland and last but not least – Lucy Liu in Christian Siriano.

  • Green brand of the week: Aquafil

You know that during the past few years, the art of Green Fashion has been so popular that we can actually call it a trend.

As we are getting closer and closer to summer, we decided to show you that it is absolutely possible to have the perfect swimsuit… made from garbage.

    View this post on Instagram

A post shared by ECONYL® brand (@econylbrand) on

“When I look at a landfill, I see a goldmine.”
That is how Giuio Bonazzi, the founder and chief executive of nylon manufacturer Aquafil – the green brand that we are presenting today –feels about creating recycled materials.

The company recycles plastic waste and turns it into nylon used for the production of apparel and accessories. It all started in 1969 with “Polyamide 6”/”Nylon 6” – a landmark in terms of quality and innovation. All the yarns manufactured by Aquafil are environmentally friendly. The Econyl thread is made from all kind of recycled materials (an interesting example of those are fishing nets and old carpets). If it is not mixed with other materials, the thread can be recycled infinitely!

Aquafil works closely with some of the leading names in swimwear and sportswear. Actually, you may already have a swimsuit made from recycled materials – Adidas, Levi’s, Speedo and Volcom are just some of the brands using the yarn for their collections.
