• Academy Awards 2019

The most spectacular awards are here for the Grande Finale of the month. Let’s see what happened during the 2019 Academy Awards ceremony!

As usual, the most discussed categories were Best Director, Best Actor in a Leading Role and Best Actress in a Leading Role.

The first winner is Alfonso Cuaron for his film Roma. Rami Malek got the award for best actor for Bohemian Rhapsody and Olivia Colman beat the other nominees with her performance in The Favourite.

Even though Black Panther did not win in the Best Picture category (the award was given to Green Book), it was the winner for Best Original Score and Best Costume Design. “Shallow” got Lady Gaga and the whole A Star is Born crew another accolade in their 2019 list, this time for Best Original Song. Mahershala Ali is officially the Best Actor in a Supporting Role with his performance in Green Book. As for the ladies in the same category – the winner is Regina King for If Beale Street Can Talk.

Another trophy for Green Book is the Oscar for Best Original Screenplay. The award for best adapted screenplay went to BlacKkKlansman.

The red carpet… was actually pink. A lot of actresses opted for pink gowns: Sarah Paulson in Brandon Maxwell, Gemma Chan in Valentino Couture, Helen Mirren in Schiaparelli, Jason Momoa and Lisa Bonet in Karl Lagerfeld, Julia Robers in Elie Saab and many more.

In the non:pink palette we have to mention Charlize Theron’s turtleneck Dior dress, Lady Gaga’s beauty by Alexander McQueen and Emma Stone’s sparkling Louis Vuitton gown.

Who is your winner for the night?

  • Grammy Awards 2019

You are well aware of the fact that this time of the year is unofficially known as the awards months. We had the Screen Actors Guild Awards (late January), the Golden Globes (early February), the British Academy Film Awards (last weekend), soon we are expecting the one and only Academy Awards. But now it’s time for the Grammy Awards for 2019!

Even though the Grammy ceremony took place more than a week ago, the looks of the night were so dazzling and extravagant that we simply have to mention some of them!

We start the list with Cardi B. The singer who was nominated for 7 categories (and won the one for Best Rap Album with “Invasion of privacy”) wore an architectural masterpiece from Thierry Mugler’s Fall 1995 couture collection.

Lady Gaga, the star which was born, not only sparkled in Celine by Hedi Slimane, but also won the award for Best Pop Solo Performance for her song “Joanne (Where Do You Think You’re Goin’?” and the award for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance for the duet with Bradley Cooper in “Shallow”.

The bad girl Janelle Monae rocked a dress by the bad boy Jean Paul Gaultier.

Tracee Ellis Ross looked stylish in her Ralph & Russo harlequin green ensemble.

Jennifer Lopez also went for a Ralph & Russo design. Did you see her hat?

The newly engaged to a Mr. Orlando Bloom Katy Parry picked a pink and quite unusual Balmain dress.

Kylie Jenner sported a pale pink outfit, also created by Balmain.

What happened with the gentlemen’s closets?

Post Malone was another celebrity that chose pink: jacket + a pair of trousers.

Leon Bridges wore a yellow Bode suit. And he won the prize for Best Traditional R&B Performance for “Bet Ain’t Worth The Hand”.

So now you got the idea – even if you don’t like their music, you have got to like their outfits!

  • Golden Globes and silver sequins 2019

One thing is sure: even though the awards are called “Golden Globes”, golden was not the only dominant shade. We also saw silver, bronze and all shades of glitter and sequins you can possibly imagine.

The more, the merrier – that was the rule when it comes to shiny dresses on the red carpet. Our favourite ladies were Saoirse Ronan in Gucci, Dakota Fanning in Armani Privé, Rosamund Pike in Givenchy Haute Couture and Thandie Newton in Michael Kors Collection.

As for the celebrity couples, we have to mention the love and chemistry between Catherine Zeta-Jones & Michael Douglas, Isla Fisher & Sacha Baron Cohen, Joanne Tucker & Adam Driver, Emily Blunt (in a dazzling dress) & John Krasinski and Irina Shayk (also in a dazzling dress) & Bradley Cooper.

Alfonso Cuaron won the prize for Best Director for his work in Roma, Darren Criss won the Best Actor in a Miniseries or Television Film award for The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story.

We finish the list in a lyrical way with Bohemian Rhapsody which won the Golden Globe for Best Motion Picture (Drama).

  • The most memorable moments of 2018

    Making a statement

Women used the red carpet during the Golden Globes to make a statement and popularize the #MeToo movement in Hollywood. The ladies wore black instead of the usual glamorous and bright fashion outfits and used the red carpet as a platform to speak about sexual harassment and to show solidarity with survivors.

    Legends are lost

In March, the fashion world lost a legend. Designer Hubert de Givenchy passed away at the age of 91. We will always remember him and the impeccable chef-d’oeuvres he created for Audrey Hepburn.
The world of superheroes also lost a legend – sir Stan Lee died in November. One thing is sure: his superpowers are here to stay!

    A royal wedding

Meghan Marke officially joined the royal family in May this year. The nuptials were in St George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle and included guests like George & Amal Clooney, Serena Williams, Elton John, James Blunt and Oprah.

    Dancing queen

Okay, it might not be a dancing queen, but it is a dancing prime minister. Theresa May can definitely talk about politics, dance, jive and – most importantly – have the time of her life even in front of a hall full of people!

    Sustainable fashion

Emissions reduction for Gap, Nike and Levi’s and fur ban for Chanel, Gucci, Burberry, Maison Margiela and many more. We can shake the hands of all the designers who made those small-but-so-large steps towards a more sustainable fashion.

  • Governors Awards 2018

The Governors Awards are an annual ceremony, which celebrates awards conferred by the Academy’s Board of Governors. The recipients are announced during the summer, but they are honored at a gala party in November or December – just a couple of months before the main Academy Awards ceremony.

The first Governors Award ceremony was held 10 years ago, in November 2009. Now, a decade later, we are having a look at the winners’ list and some of the best dressed celebrities during this year’s ceremony.

The Academy Honorary Award (which represents an Oscar statuette) for extraordinary distinction in lifetime achievement, exceptional contributions to the state in motion picture arts and sciences, or for outstanding service to the Academy was given to Cicely Tyson, Lalo Schifrin and Marvin Levy.

Kathleen Kennedy and Frank Marshall got the Irving G. Thalberg Memorial Award (which represents Thalberg’s bust on a plinth) for creative producers whose work reflects a consistent high quality of motion picture production.

From the red carpet looks, we are definitely going to remember Lady Gaga in Valentino, Rosamund Pike in Givenchy, Carey Mulligan in Dolce & Gabbana and Soirse Ronan who looked stunning in a white Calvin Klein 205W39NYC dress.

Another ten points for Chadwick “Black Panther” Boseman’s bold Versace outfit, Lily Collins in a cosmic George Chakra Couture dress, Felicity Jones in Miu Miu, Emily Blunt in Dundas with husband John Krasinski in Prada and Emma Stone in a custom Louis Vuitton gown.

Which is your favourite look du night?

  • Happy birthday, Mickey Mouse!

As Mickey Mouse, that cute little mouse with the cutest shorts ever, is back on the fashion map (most autumn-winter collections have at least one piece of clothing/accessory dedicated to the amusing character), we decided to tell you more about him in order to celebrate his birthday today.

Steamboat Willie, the cartoon which is considered to be the debut of Mickey Mouse, was released on 18 November 1928. Today, 90 years later, Mickey is still among the most beloved heroes in every childhood.

One year after Mickey was introduced to the world, he started talking. This happened in The Karnival Kid –  the ninth film he stars in, when Mickey shouts “Hot dogs!”

In the 30s, Mickey was already recognized by the public and began to appear in comic books. An interesting fact about the adventurous mouse is that in the beginning the character was intended to be an anti-hero. However, through the years Mr. Mouse got his lovable spirit. And in case you’re wondering, his white gloves were not just a stylish pick. Walt Disney and Ub Iwerks had to draw them, because animation was black and white and the gloves made Mickey’s moves more distinguishable.

In 1978, as a celebration for his 50th birthday, Mickey Mouse got his star on the Hollywood walk of fame in California.

And when it comes to fame, the only competitors Mickey had back in the days were Bugs Bunny and Popeye the Sailor. But when it comes to pendants, shoes, sweaters, bags and dresses, Mickey is definitely unbeatable in terms of demand and sales.

    Happy birthday, Mickey Mouse!
